Chabot College

The project is composed of two buildings which are connected at the second floor. Both buildings are two-story totaling 55,000 sf. Construction is a combination of tilt up panels, structural steel, light gauge metal framing and concrete cladding panels.

The Community and Student Services Center is a LEED gold project pursuing LEED Platinum. This facility houses the General Office, Financial Aid Office, Community Conference Center, Computer Classrooms, Break-Out Rooms and Open Student Areas complete with audio-visual systems.

All materials were obtained regionally (within 500 miles). Bio-swales were constructed for water conservation and pollution control and efficient water saving products installed. Energy saving design included natural ventilation and lighting systems. A weather station contributes to this “smart building” by sending messages to the EMS system for it to adjust accordingly. The entire building uses SageGlass, a new product that allows the tint of the glass to be controlled automatically to changing sunlight and heat conditions.

The unique geometry of this structure was a challenge because the radius buildings intersect and tilt up panels had to be blended with the use of concrete cladding panels and structural steel for the seamless design.
