You’re invited to attend SCM’s Beary Special Cinco de Mayo Dance Party on Friday May 2nd from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. This is event for children with special needs, their friends and family! All kids are invited to bring their favorite teddy bear to dance the night away. There will be decorations, music, light refreshments, and plenty of museum play!

There is no charge for admission, however we do ask that you please RSVP in advance to rsvp@sackids.org, or call 916-638-7225, ext 100.

Please join us for our first Inspire! Luncheon, celebrating women and mothers! Each spring, Sacramento Children’s Museum will honor a woman who has earned our respect and admiration for the work she has done to make a positive impact on the lives of young children in the Sacramento community.

The afternoon will include delicious food, specially selected vendors, and a raffle, with each table decorated by a different Table Designer! All proceeds will benefit the educational programs at Sacramento Children’s Museum.

2014 Honoree:
Kathleen Palley, Founder of Sacramento Children’s Museum

Individual lunch tickets: $35

On May 6th we are asking you to participate in a huge and historic event for our region, the BIG Day of Giving, where, over a 24 hour period from midnight to 11:59pm, Sacramento Children’s Museum will join with 400 other non-profits to try and raise $1 Million and engage 5000 donors in the region! Visit www.givelocalnow.org for more information about this historic event!

At SCM, we think moms are simply the BEST! That’s why we are offering free admission on May 10th and 11th for all moms – just our way of saying “Thank You!” for all that you do!

We’ll also have special Mother’s Day activities in our Art Studio all weekend! See you there!

Preparations are underway for Leo’s Birthday Bash, a fundraiser for Sacramento Children’s Museum! This event, comprised of an auction and family carnival, will celebrate our third anniversary and nearly a quarter of a million visitors to the Museum! This event will take place at Sacramento Children’s Museum on Saturday, August 2, 2014. It would be greatly appreciated if your business could help by donating an item we can auction (a tangible item, gift certificates, or service!).

When you make a donation to support Leo’s Birthday Bash, you and/or your business will be recognized in our bi-weekly newsletter, annual report, auction website, and on the event website. Your donation is 100% tax deductible, and the auction donation form can be accessed here. Please contact Assistant Director Ali Forma with any questions about donations, Leo’s Birthday Bash, or the Museum in general at aforma@sackids.org or call 916-638-7225 x 103!

This month, Sacramento Children’s Museum is exploring the country of Mexico! Classes take place every Thursday, starting at 10:30 am. Check out what we’ve got in store for this month’s classes:

May 1st: Let’s celebrate! Learn why and how we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Then hear about the history of piñatas and create your own paper-mache piñatas.

May 8th: Explore the geography and cuisine of México! Learn about significant features in México while putting together a map puzzle. Then learn about how tortillas are produced and make your own tortillas.

May 15th: Hear the Aztec legend behind the Mexican flag and learn about the colors of the flag. Then pretend to be a bull and a matador as you experience the art of bullfighting.

May 22nd: Listen to the music of México! Students will create their own maracas so they can dance the Macarena and the Mexican Hat Dance.

May 29th: Discover the ancient world of the Aztec Indians! Learn about the importance of chocolate in the Aztec culture. Then take a closer look at the Aztec calendar and make some sun art.
