Re-Entry & Enhanced Alternatives to Custody Training (REACT) Center

The new 57,268-square foot Stanislaus Re-Entry and Enhanced Alternatives to Custody Training (REACT) Center located in Ceres, California, is comprised of two buildings – a 2-story dormitory style housing building and a single story administration building.

The housing building incorporates 7 housing units with 288 inmate beds, comprised of four transitional units each with 48 beds, and three minimum units each with 32 beds. The administration building includes jail alternative services, classroom and training spaces, multi-purpose and counseling rooms, jail intake and property storage as well as administration spaces.

The administration building is primarily constructed with steel framing and CMU exterior walls. The housing building is constructed with CMU interior walls and tilt-up concrete exterior walls. Both buildings feature a TPO roofing membrane, security glass, CCTV and access control systems.

The REACT Center is the final piece of the County’s efforts to modernize and centralize its detention facilities. It will allow the County to close the downtown jail with the exception of a few holding spaces used for inmates attending court. Beyond modernizing its facilities, the County’s vision for its Public Safety campus was to provide for the entire inmate cycle. That meant developing facilities to safely and securely manage a broader range of backgrounds and needs, as well as implementing evidence-based programs focused on inmates’ rehabilitation and supporting their re-entry into the public sector and become productive citizens.
